Projects like restoring the Base Torres trail, the biointensive garden and recycling plastics into new products have made Hotel Las Torres a World Travel Awards (WTA) finalist.
Torres del Paine, April 15, 2025 – Hotel Las Torres has once again been nominated for the World Travel Awards (WTA), known in the industry as the Oscars of Tourism. For the third straight year, the accommodations in the heart of the Torres del Paine National Park are in the running for the ‘South America’s Leading Green Hotel’ award, reflecting several initiatives aligned with its sustainability and conservation proposal.
Hotel Las Torres, a family business with more than 30 years of history in the region, earned Chile a place on the shortlist for one of the most important awards in sustainable tourism.
This nomination reflects the various initiatives that Las Torres Patagonia has undertaken over the past year, including signing the Glasgow Declaration last April. The commitment involves specific medium- and long-term goals, like halving emissions by 2030 and reaching net zero as soon as possible before 2050.
In the last few seasons, the company has also made progress on one of its most ambitious projects: rebuilding the Las Torres Base trail to provide a new path to the national park’s most important lookout. The new route meets several environmental protection criteria, restricting visitor transit and enabling an orderly passage that does not disturb the natural surroundings.
The company has also recovered 15,000 m² of discarded plastics to manufacture new products, like backpacks and dry bags, giving a second life to raw materials previously destined for landfills.
In another waste management-related initiative, the hotel has an ongoing food waste composting program and makes bio-materials from eggshells or vegetable peels.
